Book Review by Michio Kikuchi, poet

Ms. Atsuko Dowling (A Craftsman of Healing)
The meaning of life is to spend every day in a relaxed manner and have a generous heart. We should not forget this foundation of life which provides significant cerebral care whenever we feel stressed from working hard without sufficient rest.
Therefore, it is necessary for us to devote ourselves completely to the greatness of the nature while not thinking in an overly complex manner. Additionally, we need to set aside the time to appreciate nature and effect its emotional healing.
There is an elegant melody that emanates from some new Japanese-style paintings as presented in “Relax Art Salon” by the artist Ms. Atsuko Dowling. Her art projects her psyche and permeates the heart as a representation of original nature. It keenly shows that the aura which emanates from her art is a kind of musical sensation that makes one appreciate nature’s greatness.
I suddenly noticed how great the nature is.
As an example, the vertical lines of trees in her work “Spring Moment” are just like the notes on a musical staff notation. In another one titled “Pacific Atoll Islet Memory”, one can feel the sigh of the breeze from the ocean and beach which takes on classical music traits. I think it stimulates me like having a lot of vitamins in my critic’s perception.
Also, how about the landscape with a full Japanese atmosphere achieved by beautiful bamboo titled “Path in Bamboo”? It looks as if the old man wood cutter of bamboo in “Taketori Monogatari” could suddenly appear in the picture. I can seemingly hear the sound of traditional Japanese instruments in my ears.
To tell a truth, “Relax Art Salon” by Ms. Atsuko Dowling let me notice from the beginning that music and art were well suited to each other. I myself was surprised by this.
Actually, this book is a new collection of great works of Japanese style paintings that can allow everyone to savor the taste.
